In 2017, we will see the release of a new upgraded Volkswagen Golf Mk7. It is not a complete upgrade to a new Mk8, but it is still seen as an impressive upgrade. Volkswagen hopes to hold off against the introduction of the new Ford Focus in 2018. On the face of it, this new upgrade has seen an improved exterior design as well as an updated engine.
On the outside
Volkswagen have given this new upgraded Golf mildly fettled lights and an updated bumper. The front bumper comes with wider air intake and if you choose the R-line trim, you get contrasting black trim pieces. There will also be new headlights to go with the rest of this upgrade.
With this new upgrade, you can expect a pair of brand new 1.5-litre petrol engines. The first comes with 148 bhp and is more economical than the current model. This new model develops 58 mpg. Whilst the current model does 52.3 mpg from the 1.4-litre engine.
The second engine is more fuel efficient than both of current and the other new car. This new Bluemotion model only has 128 bhp, but it produces 61 mpg.
Volkswagen have also tweaked their Golf GTI to improve the current 220 bhp up to 227 bhp for the standard model. For those of you who fancy the Performance trim on the GTi, you will receive 242 bhp. It also comes with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox to ensure that power is put down on the road effectively. That will replace the current six-speed gearbox.
Volkswagen have also updated the interior of the new Golf. The design has changed from being more visually aesthetic to a more technical design. It will have its own version of Audi’s famous virtual cockpit with a fully digital 12.3 instrument display in front of the driver. It will display navigation data, consumption, and range information as well as efficiency profiles, performance and diver assistance info. Also, if you want a bit of classical look, you can simply choose to have the classic two dial set up.
When it launches in 2017, like all other Golfs, you should consider it. It will likely be a masterpiece of German engineering and comfort. We recommend you check it out.
